We have stumbled upon an amazing find less than an hour away! Sometimes when we don’t have any check-ins, we take the Miata on a day trip. This time we cruised down Route 20 and took in some of the cool sights of the area. The highlight for us was Hyde Hall. Overlooking Lake Ostego (commonly called Glimmerglass), this 55 room limestone mansion built in the 1800’s was fascinating. It is in the process of restoration, which is more interesting than a mansion all finished and pretty. The hour tour was too short, really…we would have like to poked around a bit more. The tour guide had to keep an eye on Rick because he was wandering down hallways that were not part of the tour.
After that we walked around Cooperstown and then had dinner at the Blue Mingo Cafe. Great food right on the water.
We didn’t have time to visit the Farmer’s Museum, the Fenimore Art Museum, the Baseball Hall of Fame, or the interesting shops in Cooperstown.
I think the great thing about Mariaville Lake B&B is our location. We may not be in a resort town, but there are so many road trips you could take and come back to the peace and quiet at the end of the day. September is a particularly beautiful time to visit, and we do have rooms open here and there. Give us a call and we’ll help you plan your trip.
